Good point for Civil War X-Men. But even though Hine kept some characters from one title to another he never got the chance to develop every thing he wanted from the beginning of the title. For example those who pull the string behind Bishop's back.

Just finished the Unknown soldier from the 1989 12-issues series by James Owsley, aka Christopher Priest. The Tagline : "This only looks like a war story".
The pitch : after being disfigured by an explosion, captured by the Japanese army then experimented on, a US soldier gains "regenerative tissues" that make him effectively immortal. Never aging and at the peak of human capacity, he is quickly used as a pawn by both the US intelligence and the CIA. The series follows his struggle to escape this fate as he bounces between Cold War conflicts (the USSR invasion of Afghanistan, Liban, North Korea), although he still feels drawn to the conflict. As usual, Priest plays with the Timeline and offers multiple flashbacks. The 6th issue establishes that there's a long line of Unknown Soldier when the predecessor of the hero blows his brain in front of the main character. Some of Priest narration echoes current controversies and conflicts, when the Soldier looks at young Russian soldiers in Afghanistan and muses about the fact that they rather belong in a mall than on warfield, or paints the US army as an invading force in Korea. All around, a good story |

Thanks JB, for making some sense of it. On to the topic then...I've been discovering John Byrne's run on FF and I'm quite amazed by the work he did there. Some really solid stuff. I've read some good reviews about his work on Namor so can't wait to read that series.
I'm also trying to get the silver-age issues of Silver Surfer. Recently read some Englehart and Starlin penned issues and loved them all. Simple yet elegant. Has anyone read Starlin's Captain Marvel? Those issues are hard to find these days. |

3 issues yet and I'm going to finish to read the first Fallen Angel omnibus published by IDW. I am disappointed in comparison with the DC series. What a pity that Peter DAVID could not continue after FA #20 (DC), because I see that the writer has took another direction. Graphically it is very random and that is not worth David López, the best penciller of Lee. Nevertheless after more than 40 numbers read I impassion myself for the adventures of Lee and it is that way I approach the series.
At the same time I have begin Hellshock of Jae LEE. It's beautiful. |

I was not really a fan of Englehart's Silver Surfer, especially when he derails the series to write about his beloved character Mantis. As far as Byrne is concerned, I'll refrain from ranting |
