Hugo Pratt (w & a & c)

This book, the first of 12 volumes, launches the definitive English language edition of Hugo Pratt's masterpiece, presented in the original oversized B&W format with new translations made from Pratt's original Italian scripts.

Long before the term "graphic novel" entered the popular lexicon -- ten years before Will Eisner's A Contract with God -- Hugo Pratt pioneered the long-form "drawn literature" story. Corto Maltese set the standard for all adult adventure comics in Europe. By the mid-1970s Corto was the continent's most popular series and Hugo Pratt the world's leading graphic novelist.

Hugo Pratt's peripatetic sailor was featured in a series of 29 stories. The adventures of this modern Ulysses are set during the first 30 years of the 20th Century in such exotic locales as Pratt's native Venice, the steppes of Manchuria, the Caribbean islands, the Danakil deserts, the Amazon forests, and the waves of the Pacific.

Corto Maltese: Under the Sign of Capricorn collects the first six inter-connected short stories Pratt created in France in the early 1970s: "The Secret of Tristan Bantam," "Rendez-vous in Bahia," "Sureshot Samba," "The Brazilian Eagle," "So Much for Gentlemen of Fortune," and "The Seagull's Fault."

Wayne Boring provides the classic artwork, and once again, Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel scripts adaptations of stories that first appeared in comic books. Siegel and Boring offer alternate versions of now classic stories originally written by Siegel himself, Leo Dorfman, Otto Binder, Robert Bernstein, Edmund Hamilton -- and drawn in comic books by Curt Swan, Al Plastino, Kurt Schaffenberger, and Pete Costanza.

More than 750 daily strips -- over two years worth of stories -- from Earth-N (for Newspapers) that comic book fans have not previously seen. Edited and designed by Dean Mullaney, Introduction by Sid Friedfertig, and cover drawing by Pete Poplaski.

288 pages, $49.99.

CEREBUS: COVER GALLERY

Dave Sim & Gerhard (A & C)

Dave Sim is one of the most important cartoonists in comics history. His groundbreaking Cerebus ran for 300 issues, each written and drawn by Sim -- a monumental achievement! Now, through IDW Publishing, Sim's beautiful covers are reproduced in an archival over-sized hardcover, and many of the illustrations have been scanned from Sim's personal collection of his original art. Also collected are roughs, color guides, sketches, and other historical images that chronicle this very important artist's creative process.Â

432 pages, $75.

LITTLE NEMO: RETURN TO SLUMBERLAND #3

Eric Shanower (W/VC), Gabriel Rodriguez (A & C)

After the startling events of the previous issue, Nemo is quite surprised to find himself in Slumberland once again, but not altogether unhappy. While the princess, Bon-bon, and Candy Kid sleep, Flip takes Nemo on a garden tour until they encounter the wondrous Tessellated Tower -- the most remarkable thing Nemo has ever seen. Meanwhile, the princess awakens to discover that Nemo has run off... and with the horrid Flip, of all people!

32 pages, $3.99.

STARLING, BOOK 1: ASHLEY WOOD

Ashley Wood (A & C)

Remember Sparrow? The art-book series pioneered by Ashley Wood and featuring some of the most acclaimed painters and artists in the world and printed on an amazing paper stock? Yep, this is like that, only this series is even larger in size and features all–new pieces from, again, some of the best artists in existence. Up first, the series' creator, Ashley Wood!

54 pages, $14.99.

JOHN ROMITA'S AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ARTIFACT EDITION HC

Stan Lee (W), John Romita (A & C)

This over-sized (it's as big as the recent STERANKO Artist's Edition) Artifact Edition showcases the absolute peak of Romita's tenure on Amazing Spider-Man from his first 15 issues (#39-53), and all are twice-up pages -- this one is an enormous 15" x 22" tome!
